The Union Station Hotel at 1001 Broadway was constructed by the L&N Rarilroad 1898 to 1900, Union Station once served as Nashville's Central Railroad Depot. It is now a luxury hotel.

The massive stone structure was built in Romanesque Revival architectural style (Victorian Romanesque Revival) using Bowling Green gray stone and Tennessee marble. Within the magnificent central lobby, illustrations and sculptural freizes depict the agricultural, mechanical, and commercial pursuits of the State of Tennessee.

According to the description in the National Historic Landmarks Program, "On the south wall there was also an illustration of the "1900 Limited," a special passenger train that provided express service between St. Louis and Nashville." Union Station is a well-loved element of the Nashville cityscape. A statue of a winged Mercury graces its top pinnacle.
