The Nashville Main Library, located on Church Street in the heart of the city. The building offers state-of-the-art facilities and serves all of Nashville and Davidson County. The building's Romanesque design by Robert A.M. Stern is marked by 33-foot tall stone ionic columns and three sets of custom-sculptured bronze doors that are aligned with the main entrance to the nearby Tennessee State Capital Building. The exterior of the building is composed of limestone and granite with brick accents.
Upon entering the library, patrons are greeted by a monumental grand staircase and a 17-foot tall custom chandelier. The interior of the building features high-end finishes throughout. Local artists showcase their work in the building's galleries and exhibit areas, and there is also retail space, offices and research areas for the library staff.
The courtyard area behind the building features stone benches, a large fountain and extensive landscaping. The new building along with the 200-space parking deck occupies a full city block.
